In addition, our patients meet with our team of bariatric experts (including our New York weight loss surgeon) to discuss the following criteria:

  • Surgery is a very serious undertaking, therefore a candidate must have tried non-surgical treatments such as dietary programs, behavioral modification, and exercise.
  • There must be no underlying, medical or hormonal cause for obesity. Such conditions are rare and require treatment of the root cause.
  • A candidate must participate in our comprehensive patient education and become fully informed about the surgical procedure and what can be expected, both as to weight loss and possible complications.
  • A candidate must demonstrate a willingness to accept the risks of surgery and to make dramatic lifelong changes in his/her lifestyle, dietary habits, exercise, and to commit to medical follow-up.
